Privacy Notice

This notice explains how Vaelo, the operator of SplitTip ("we", "us"), collects, uses, and protects your personal data. We act as the data controller for the information we hold about you.
1. Data we collect
- Account data: email address, hashed password, OAuth profile (name, email) if you sign in with Google.
- Trip data: the bills, tips, splits, and items you save.
- Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps. Used for security and product analytics.
- Support correspondence: messages you send us by email.
Payment-card details are collected directly by our payment provider, Paddle. We never see your card number.
2. Why we use it
- To create and operate your account (contract performance).
- To provide the calculator and saved-trip features (contract performance).
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents (legitimate interests).
- To improve the product (legitimate interests).
- To respond to support requests (legitimate interests).
- To send service emails and, if you opt in, occasional product updates (consent).
3. Who we share it with
- Paddle — Merchant of Record. Handles checkout, subscription billing, tax compliance, invoices, and refunds. See Paddle's privacy policy.
- Hosting and database providers — store your account and trip data and serve the website.
- Analytics providers — aggregate, anonymised usage statistics (e.g. Google Analytics).
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting, when needed.
- Authorities — only when required by law.
4. International transfers
Some of our subprocessors (including Paddle and our hosting provider) are located outside the UK/EEA. Where applicable, transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
5. Retention
We keep account and trip data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete personal data within 30 days, except for records we must retain for legal, tax, or accounting reasons (typically up to 7 years for billing records held by Paddle).
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. UK/EEA users may also lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority. We respond to requests within one month. Email info@vaelo.quest to exercise any of these rights.
7. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures (TLS in transit, encryption at rest, role-based access, row-level database security) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
8. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to understand aggregate usage. You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.
